Between an event at work, a final project, a final exam, and some volunteer work, I’ve found myself shy on time for hobbying. I wish I could say I did more or got some gaming in, but I really didn’t, so here’s a fluffy post about skulls and templates. First, the skulls:

I have smaller skull cups that I honestly like more, but I cannot for the life of me find their files again. I settled for these, which are also rather nice. What are they for? Dice, tokens, whatever the game calls for, really. In Desiderium, we roll dice in cups to help hide their results until revealed. That’s not truly required, but it’s fun. These are larger than my existing cups, so they’ll mix the dice better.

They were very simple—done entirely spray paint. The skulls and bases are printed separately, so I primed the bases in gold and did the skulls in a three tone progression of brown to khaki to bone white. I’m quite pleased for how little work went into them. Again, they’ll mostly roll dice, but I’ve considered using tokens to track morale in Frigates and Fireballs!, so they’ll probably see some use there as fun props. Nothing attracts people to event tables quite like fun props. Speaking of F&F…

I designed some simple templates for the game. The measuring templates are eight inches long. They’re not super fancy, but they’re intentionally very easy to paint, with one inch markers around the rim. Eight inches is the range band for the game, so it made sense as the ideal length for the template.

These templates are a simple design I stole from Sail and Steam Navies, where different angles were used. You line it up with the back of your base and turn the ship accordingly by 45 or 22.5 degrees. Very easy and simple to use.
I have my final the day this post goes up, so I’m hoping this weekend will be spent catching up on some painting. I have rats, more ships, and some terrain waiting for me to finally swing back around. Not to mention some Halo stuff a buddy gifted me that I greatly look forward to.
No, I’m not short on projects. Time? Another story entirely, as always…
