And here we finish off the final models from the Spartan Edition starter set. Like with the Spartans, I debated how colorful I wanted these to be. For some reason, Sangheili are just blue in my mind. Blue and shiny. That’s not entirely accurate, but I happened to discover I still had some Vallejo Arctic Blue metallic sitting around from my Warhammer: 30k Ultramarines (three whole years ago?!) so the rest wrote itself.

I love the effect on their armor, but in retrospect I regret not adding a touch of white or thinning it more to get it a shade brighter. They look better in person, but photograph quite dark.

One of the fun parts of this process is digging up images of Sangheili. They varied a bit across the games, but generally had grey skin. Their suits are almost inherently dark, so choosing a dark blue armor made it all blend in just a touch. I’ll probably end up with a few more of these boys, so the next batches will go for brighter colors like my Spartans. There are, of course, many different colors of Sangheili. No reason to stick to blue.

At least the weapons add a pop of color!

I also finished the remainder of my starter set, which is the physical tokens. Sorta. On the left there are the weapon drop points, which you can place weapons onto when they spawn–those are useful and will see play in every match. On the right are the item spawn points, which… feel odd. Items don’t respawn, so there’s not much reason to litter the battlefield with these. Then there’s the four crates which uh… don’t do anything in the game, as best as I can discern. I’ll probably just glue them into a stack to use as scatter.

The oddball was, well, odd to paint. The flames are a fine detail and thus a little hard to nail. If I were to do it again, I’d go with the later variant of the oddball which is a crystal blue skull with blue flames. It would simplify the paint job and help to cover mistakes. I highly recommend doing that instead.

That wraps up the starter set. I now have a perfectly good “Halo in a box.” I can stop. This is it. Just play it a bunch and then put it away, satisfied.
Yeah, okay, I already got the War Games expansion… more Spartans to come.
