Okay, okay. Dwarves. I’ve been painting most every night to try and get this small force done. They’re the dwarves from One Page Rules, but I painted them up for Dragon Rampant.

To start, I painted up 36 warriors. These make up 3 warrior units for Dragon Rampant, if you’re using a model per strength point. You don’t have to, of course–you can use multiple strength points per model. It’s up to you. These models took me a long while. It’s another case of OPR’s tendency to make very detailed models. I always feel like there’s slightly more than I want to paint on them.

They look great once done, though! I’m super pleased and happy with the sculpts. In particular, I love that the trim on their clothing is bulky, which made it really easy to cleanly paint. They pop so well and look great on table. It’s more my fault for painting all 36 as a large batch. I was experimenting to see if it would help me get them done–honestly, it did, even if it was tedious. I’ll likely do my Sisters of Battle like this. It seems to cure my tendency to just do 10 models and move on.

Next up, I painted the coal golems. Six of them, making up what I’ll call two units with each model having four strength points. I had a lot of fun with these and I’m really happy with how they came out. They took a dry brush super well and with all the ropes and chains and such they have just the right amount of detail. These are excellent. My only complaint is I wish there were more sculpts. I chose to make them purple to pop off the more teal-blue of the dwarves themselves.

Next up is the cannon and crew. Not much to write home about here but I’m happy with how they came out. I like the simple steampunk cannon design and I love the little aprons on the crew! Altogether, they look great to me.

Finally, we have a leader. Simple enough–just a cool looking dude with a hammer. I think the sculpt here is great and I had fun painting him. This gentleman will make a fine leader model and I think he really stands out on tabletop. I love the details here and think it really comes together.
That’s it for now. The above represents a 36 point force for Dragon Rampant, which is technically over the default size (24 points) but I’m pretty sure most players play at 36 anyway. I still intend to paint up a banner, a mage, and 24 crossbowmen for options. Otherwise, that’s a wrap on my first Dragon Rampant force and the first dwarves I’ve painted in… uh… checks notes.

Six years?!
