And now for the Scrapjacks themselves. These come from Anvil Industries. They’re the absolute perfect set for Scrapjacks, so when I saw them on sale I had to pounce.

These are my Yarddog options. That’s… that’s the actual name of the class/role. They’re the combatant class, able to wield all weapons in the game. I love the Sunjet specifically, which fires a teardrop template and destroys scatter terrain as well as Points of Interest. I’d believe every crew would want at least one of these guys on hand.

In purple I have my Riggers. They’re the hackers, so obviously I gave them computer stuff. This is also the only example I have of their air tanks on their backs. I’m oddly happy with them–I got this metallic style by painting them silver, then using SpeedPaint Nuclear Sunrise on them. It’s not a very good paint in terms of orange coverage, but that makes it perfect for doing old worn metal like this.

In blue I have my Patch options. These are the doctors and, well, I lacked anything that screamed “Medic” in this pack of miniatures. Rather than start cutting apart minis digitally, I decided to just roll with it and build some tough as nails doctors. They’re ready to amputate!

In red, the Torches. They break into or through stuff. I obviously chose red because fire. I’m afraid it doesn’t come across in this shot, but the guy on the right is holding a blowtorch. On the left, he has a canister of… something. We’ll assume explosives and move on.

Last, but not least, is my favorite team member: the cargo sled. You get this after upgrading your ship for the first time. It lets you carry more stuff and exchange heavier gear between encounters while continuing to explore the ship. It also counts as cover in a pinch! I had an existing painted model that would have worked fine, but gosh if I didn’t love this one too much to pass up. The metal here was done using one of my favorite simple methods: black to white triad, then hit it with SpeedPaint Runic Grey. It creates such a standout effect I can hardly believe it. I don’t think I’ve used more of any other paint.
So there we have… uh… more Scrapjacks than I’ll ever need, really. You only need 4-5 for the campaign but I loved the models so much I painted up a whole crew. They might see play elsewhere, perhaps in the scifi skirmish game I’ve been working on (perhaps more on that soon). I’m also working on an Excel for this game. I’ve gotten it about 95% done but want to see how I’d track the campaign with it. There’s so many small things in this game I’m not convinced I got them all together in one place yet. Here’s an example of one character sheet:

As you can see, there’s a lot going on. You have your five stats, your suit (EVA) and its mod, your attributes (knack, rattle, veteran knack, advanced training, and any scars), your weapons and their mods, and finally your utility slots. This is why the game is meant for multiple players, each controlling only 1-2 scrapjacks. Even in the game’s solo mode, you get two scrapjacks and then a helper bot that’s much simpler:

He doesn’t have consumables and his rules are easy enough to keep in mind. He also just rolls one type of dice (D8) with no two-dice bonus to track. Comparatively much simpler to play.
Next up for prep is the terrain for the game, which will be a heck of a project. Hopefully, I’ll have some progress to show off by next week, even if it’s just simple floor tiles. Bit by bit, I draw closer to scrapping spaceships. Corporate debt, here I come!
