A simple post to start my January in earnest: I painted a few dudes and dudettes.

These models all come from Galaad Miniatures and they’re great. They were a genuine joy to paint up, with just the right amount of detail for interest without bogging things down. I took my time and enjoyed the process–in the middle of a hectic holiday, these were just what I needed.

I painted up just six for now to try out the game I’m designing, still tentatively called Fate Carvers until I find a better name.

I really liked this knight figure. It’s a great example of the correct level of detail for interest. Just enough to make him compelling without taking a ton of your day to get him done.

I also put some reasonable effort into the basing, using multiple flocks, grasses, and some 3D printed plants I printed off earlier this year and painted up as a large batch to use as I went. Always a worthwhile project when you’re not sure what to do: just whip up a bunch of basing bits.

These do a great job of evoking the atmosphere I want for my game: serious fantasy, but not lacking in color or energy. Overall, I’m happy with how they came out and I think they make for a great set of minis to start alpha testing the game.
As for that testing, more details to come…
