Quick and dirty today. I’ve been working on my Sisters of Battle project for fourth edition 40k. I’m using the Blessed Sisters line from One Page Rules. They’re great, if a little busy, as most One Page Rules sculpts tend to be.

Then again, when it comes to Sisters of Battle, what did I expect? I actually really, really like these sculpts. I think the style is great, if a little tricky to paint, but I’m not really trying all that hard here so who cares? My goal is to make an army that looks good in aggregate and I think as a test scheme this is a rousing success.

You can see some layer lines very specifically on this shoulder pad. I’m not sure why that is but the camera caught it far worse than my eye did. In person, they look good. This was my last set of prints off my failing printer–I suspect the new one would do a better job.

Either way–I can’t fault One Page Rules on price. These were a great value and I’m stoked to be painting them.

I did mess up the wash a bit, as you can see on the loin cloth for the sister on the right here. Otherwise, I think I came up with a reasonably speedy, if detailed, paint scheme. I also want to call out the basing: I wanted something simple but reasonably nice. I used a thick, black basing paste and glued on some crystals I got off Etsy for an Age of Sigmar project two years back. It looked… not great. Then I dry brushed it blue–suddenly it came together beautifully. One of those happy hobby moments where a mistake becomes an opportunity. Love it.

On balance, these were still pretty laborious but not as bad as I expected. I will be painting around 50 overall, so wish me luck. It’ll be a great looking army once complete and I look forward to messing around with 4th Edition again. It’s been two or three years now since I last played but I really enjoyed it last time around.

And hey–who doesn’t enjoy a bit of a switch up? From fantasy to World War 2 to scifi. You have to love the variety our hobby brings.
