Another simple one today, still on theme for Elder Scrolls. I printed off the full tower set (and then some) from Modiphius. It came as part of the MyMiniFactory campaign they ran a few months back for Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms.

It’s a good set and obviously well on theme. I cannot, in good conscience, ever recommend you buy it. There’s two major reasons:

  1. Look at that price tag. You want to sell me a basic tower design for $40? If this hadn’t been part of the campaign I’d be pissed.
  2. The walls literally don’t line up. They take their little render photos at just the right angle that you can’t see it, but there’s no proper follow up to the wall that touches the base of the doorway in the tower. Almost every piece is awkwardly sized, except this one that splits it immediately into two directions, which eats a lot of wall an in inefficient space.

Okay, fine–it still looks good completed. I added some snow effect using Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel and some snow effect from AK. It worked well to create a melting snow effect but I’ll likely add more on when I do the rest of the board. I further added some frost effect from Vallejo; it’s part of their Special FX line and worked well to create the frost you can see on the sides of the walls.

Yes, there’s a ‘rest of the board’ here. I want to add a house and yard, as this is the tower from Helgen at the start of the game. I’ve already painted and based a house but I need to go through the layers of snowifying it. This time I’m taking a different approach, but I’ll describe that in Thursday’s post this week.

On whole, I like the set. You can see I’ve played a game on it already where I included a house. Imagine that same house, but with fences, a well, more scatter, and a bunch of snow. There you go. That’s the board.

And it’ll be a nice board at that.
