Wrapped up another 65 Vikings for the Battle of Clontarf in Midgard later this month. These are mostly Victrix with the heroes coming from Footsore.

The shields come from a file set put out by Rodge, the same guy who does the Saga YouTube channel. They’re embossed with their respective designs. I found them reasonably easy to paint but made quite a few mistakes, which I hid by weathering the shields considerably.

This was a pretty quick job. I painted most of them last week, with 30 or so painted in a morning and the 60 odd shields taking me about two hours on top of it all. Not bad, really. The quality of Victrix shows through as the minis themselves really did most of the work. I still recommend their now “old” Viking kit. It’s still very much top of the market in quality.

I have yet to settle which hero is which for the main battle. It’s likely I had an idea when I bought them but now that’s a distant memory–how many years ago was 2024? Five or so, right?

Jokes aside. This was very satisfying and I think they look great massed together on their bases. This puts a wrap in my required preparations for my upcoming Midgard game. From here I plan to paint up a few token sets for my players to take home. If I run this battle again, I’ll expand the armies with fantasy elements, like jotun and fae folk. I’m really hoping to nail this intro game for the club.

Very happy with this project. These right here are an army I’ll be using for years. Few things about historicals are more satisfying than that realization. These boys will never go out of style.
