Another simple off the bench today. While working on my swamp terrain for Saga I decided to also do some ruins. While the swamps took their sweet time drying resin, I found plenty of time to put more effort than normal into these three pieces.

The walls and bit of cobblestone peaking out are all 3D printed. Simple triad dry brush followed by a super thinned warm Sepia tone wash. The bricks sitting on the ground are some basing bricks I had laying around. They’re huge and I’ve struggled to use them in basing so this was a welcome opportunity to lay them down.

The bases are MDF from Warbases. I had intended to use them to do up some fancy 15mm terrain but honestly the burden of doing so has put those buildings off by more than a year. So here we are using them for area terrain in 28mm. I used a normal basing paste I had laying around to get the very orange earthen texture, then washed and dry brushed it.

The flock is a mixture of various flocks I have sitting around. I mixed a specific batch just for this, wanting something light with a good amount of green and roughage to it.

After it all dried I went back and added some flock onto the ruins, as you can see on the left arch above. I wanted some amount of overgrowth without over killing it. This was rays to do: just run some watered down PVA up the side of the ruin and flock it. I pressed it in for good measure. It added a lot more life to the scene.

In the image above you can see I also included some red colored flock in the mix. It gives the impression of flowers here and there. I think I could have added a touch more but this worked out quite well.

Here on the right you can see the flock strip I added along the ground of the right side ruin. I’ve never found a good use for these but they helped being this to a more wild place and worked quite well here. It’s not always cleanly visible but it feels right.

There you have it. A few simple ruins. They’ll see use in Saga as well as some skirmish fantasy with my son in the next month or so. They’d fit for terrain in various games, fantasy or historical. I’m very happy with them and putting these together was very cathartic after a long work week. As far as small, quick project go this one has proven one of my favorites.n
Now if only those darn swamps would finish drying.
