Managed to swing a game day for Chain of Command recently. I even managed to get a game in!

We played a scenario out of the 1940 Handbook, which had an attacker trying to push lengthwise across the board and get two units off their opponent’s edge. I was the attacker and, well… it didn’t go so well. I started the game by rushing two units down the board, using the fences and woods as cover on two opposite sides of the board.

I even rolled a tank onto the board to try and distract my opponent and lay fire down to cover for my men running desperately for their lives.

Unfortunately, I ran into defenders in the orchards and the houses which slowed me to a crawl. In the image earlier, you can see some men in a field surrounded by a stone fence–they were already hunkered down and holding on for relief. Just one good At the Double away from getting off the board and they couldn’t make it any further. On the other side I managed to get a little farther along, but my opponent used the orchard to hide away two whole sections ready to force me to charge them or die to shooting.

Again, it didn’t end well. All said, it was a fun game. I always enjoy Chain of Command even as my eye wanders through so many other systems. It’s like a glove to me now–I can slip it on and play and have a great time, no matter what. Even losing, this made for an interesting battle and didn’t play out quite like any other match I’ve played.
Version 2 can’t come soon enough. I greatly look forward to meeting my favorite game all over again.
