Start-stop. Start-stop. Start-stop.

This year starts a little rough for my hobbying. I’m just back from family vacation and hammering through my Dropfleet UCM ships–I’ve got more than half the force done so far with only my larger ships left to go. The paint scheme was chosen by my niece: purple and red.

It’s not my best but to some extent I’m just trying to hammer these home because I have a work trip to Japan, followed by a busy work week, followed by a busy remainder of the month–all while I work ahead and catch up on my finance course I start this week. Going to Japan in the middle of the block (my courses are 8 weeks long) is, uh… a choice. I’m only missing a midterm. It’s fine! I get sushi in exchange.

I’m excited. Don’t get me wrong. Japan will be cool. But on topic: it’s just long enough to shift my hobby focus. As a result I’m trying to avoid starting any project that won’t survive interruption. My UCM will be done this weekend and then I have a week and a half to fill before I go to Japan. The obvious choice is perhaps simple: play a video game I can bring to Japan. Or read a book I can bring to Japan. Or do anything more reasonable than start painting a new army I’ll have to stop painting for two weeks.

I am nothing if not unreasonable with regards to my hobby.

My options as I see it are:

  1. Paint up additional forces for an existing force. Likely some VTOLs to augment my desert themed Battletech force.
  2. Paint a small Battletech force. I think I could hammer out my Ghost Bears in a week just fine.
  3. Do something that can be stopped and started.

Perhaps one of the reasons I like Battletech so much is how easy it is to bang out projects for it. Get an idea, acquire the minis, paint in a week or two. Bam! Brand new force and tactics. Very satisfying. Per something that can be stopped and started: I’m thinking I could paint up my 15mm buildings but not base them. I… think I’ll still base them down the line. It may be next month, it may be five months from now. In the mean time I’ll finally be able to try out 15mm Chain of Command, like I’ve been aiming to do for two years now.

The latter project appeals to me the most right this moment so I’m trying to get myself to wrap up my silly spaceships and capitalize on my rare desire to paint terrain. Though, it occurs to me as I write this that a final possibility is building out the Irish and Vikings I want to paint for Clontarf–leaving them primed and ready to paint would be a great stopping point.

Roll the dice, I guess. What will Sandro get done next?

1 – Nothing

2 – Incidentals he hasn’t thought of

3 – Battletech

4 – Battletech

5 – Terrain

6 – Tiny primed plastic Irishmen
