I’ve knocked out all the infantry for my Crusader force for Midgard. 48 footsoldiers and 16 bowmen. The soldiers are from Wargames Atlantic and the bowmen from Conquest Games. I can readily recommend both, with the footsoldiers being higher quality and the archers being good quality for price.

Per my earlier post on my Portuguese force, I chose a few different color schemes to represent an army raised from various counties. What I didn’t quite do was any form of heraldry. With my recent interest in the Battle of Clontarf I found myself wanting to get this project done, no matter how much I was enjoying it. I’m happy with the generic shields but one day I may come back and do up a few more detailed units.

Nothing fancy behind these paint jobs. I did a zenithal highlight just enough to see the details, then washed with a thinned down black wash mixed with some speedpaint medium.

One thing I adore about these sculpts is that they are in the detail sweet spot for both kits. This is where you have just enough to paint to look good with no extrenuous detail that eats your time. As a functional painter, I love this. It means I enjoy the painting process and never feel bogged down.

I look forward to finishing my Templar Knights to add to these and call the army complete for now. All together it’ll be a great looking force and will look great up against my earlier Arabs. My son is chomping at the bit to paint a dragon to add to these boys and throw down in Midgard. I’d like to think it speaks well of the kits that my nine year old is hyped to play with them.

Hell, I am, too.
