Not much to report, honestly. We got two games of Chain of Command running this past Sunday in my effort to revive play in the club. Illness claimed our third table.

Both tables reported good times had. I was happy to see the game back on the tabletop even if I was the odd man out. It’s funny–every time I see or play a Lardy game, I find myself wanting to play even more Lardy games. I could probably join a club that solely plays them (Lard America is basically in my back yard, admittedly).

When I look at the games I look forward to releasing, they’re just about all made directly by the Lardies or published by them. I want something medieval–well, here comes Midgard, published by TooFatLardies! My desire to paint my abandoned 6mm Napoleonics has been growing lately–well no problem, the Lardies also published a Napoleonic ruleset just this past year! Cowboys? Lardies. Excuse to bust out my ancient Brits? Lardies. You get the idea.

Back to Chain of Command. Second edition is an unclear distance away and while I wait in great anticipation, I can wait. The game as it currently stands is still great. It generates telling narratives, intense battles, and a constant stream of worthwhile decisions. My players expressed a desire to get another date on calendar ASAP. It remains the one game I can revisit and run game days for indefinitely.

So that’s that. No grand purpose today or attempt at making a point or drawing some conclusion. “Chain of Command: Still Great” is the boring headline I should have given this post.

Because, well, it is still great. Unsurprisingly.

  1. and it was fantastic time. Can confirm. My opponent kept me on my toes the whole game and every decision we made seemed to matter and impact the match.

  2. I love Chain of Command took, but I don’t get to play very often.
