So aside from Rumbleslam, Carnevale is the other strange new game I’ve been looking at. It takes place on the streets of Venice circa 1700 during a struggle between the Vatican and an elder god worshipping aquatic cult. So Venice with eldritch horror thrown in.

For my force, I chose the Strigoi, a group of vampires, gypsies, and the aquatic beasts they’ve enthralled.

The game has a cool theme and I’m about halfway through printing my Venice board.

My hope is to build two or three boards complete with risers and canals.

The game itself is a small skirmish game where your forces are very nimble and mobility is key. You can swim, run, jump and climb rather easily. You can even chain jump, allowing you to use floating debris in the canal to quickly cross.

My Romani are all mages, allowing me to play around with the magic side of the game. The werewolves are transformed Romani who are just very large melee bruisers.

The final group is led by a ferryman, who allows me to bring two gondolas to the fight, allowing for better water traversal. He comes with two aquatic vampires and two aquatic thralls, giving me a good chunk of water traversing capability, so I can use the canals to my advantage.

No clue if I’ll ever really play this game, but hobbying it out has proven to be a good time. We’ll see as the year progresses.

My recent radio silence was caused by my taking up another hobby: gravel cycling. I have a bit less time for painting now. I hope to leverage this to stop myself from buying into more stuff as I’d rather spend that money on… more stuff, but for the bike.

With Hobbypocalypse coming, I may finally stand a chance of focusing on my backlog. “May” being the operative word.
