I managed to get some significant painting time in last week, despite recent craziness in general. This was just enough to bang out my Arkab Legion inspired mercenary force set in the 3060’s.

This force isn’t meant to have some illustrious backstory. I haven’t given them distinct leaders (yet) or anything else. Their primary purpose is to play against my son’s forces for now. I had some fun, designing a force that revolves around placing TAGs on enemies, then using those to fire indirect fire at them.

My objective is to teach my son how to fight indirectly by… er… demolishing him with it. You know: good dad stuff. The tanks are three different types:

-Ishtar Heavy Fire Support Tanks: these are the awkward looking ones. They’re high damage output and honestly straightforward. I just think they look silly and love them for it.

-Alacorns: these are the cool tanks with three cannons. They work exactly how you think. Lots of damage output.

-Saracens (TAG): Light, fast moving hover chassis that can TAG enemies for indirect fire.

The mechs are all over the map and are mostly a hodgepodge of stuff I had laying around, but the two Archers are the key to the bombardment I’m planning.

Per the paint scheme: I didn’t put camo on the mechs because they’re… well, mechs. At a certain point camo is silly. The tanks, however, are smaller and capable of hiding, so camo made sense for them in my mind. Plus, it added some visual intrigued on top of the drab khaki.

So there—a nice, small project in between bigger terrain projects. Next up, who knows? On my short term plate are the following:

1.      Finish walls and a few more buildings for Battletech at Tentcon in June.

2.      Paint a few more monsters for Silver Bayonet to keep pace as my players rapidly level.

3.      Paint up my Eastern European village for Chain of Command (Optional for Tentcon).

4.      Paint up a Rumbleslam force.

5.      House Liao Planetary Defense Force (composed of 12 Urbanmechs, 12 Goblin tanks)

6.      Do something else on a whim like an idiot.

Per usual: I have no idea which of these is next. I’m leaning toward the trashcan force because it’s a fun idea, but I really should paint some darn terrain. I have half a mind to take a few days off work just to do it. I could use the time off and few things reset me quite like a good terrain project. We’ll see…
