No, I don’t know where that name came from. No, I can’t think of anything better. It got stuck and now I live with it in mild shame.

This force represents a mercenary company serving House Liao. It’s a full combined arms battalion with five companies and 18 lances. I had a lot of fun plotting out the force and painting it. Switching from tanks to VTOLs to hovercraft to mechs made for a nice bit of variety.

The final mech was the one in the center here: a Marauder. He’s featured here next to a Marauder 2 and Cyclops. These are some of my favorite mechs and I’m happy with how they came out.

Back here we see a few tanks and mechs intermixed. Of note is the variety of mechs on display. I repeated very few mechs (two VIndicators, two Ravens–they’re the most common House Liao mechs).

Here’s a better shot of a wing of VTOLs, with the Ravens in view on the left. I love their design in particular. I also have a lone Catapult in the back there, which is a mech I’ve always loved for its simplicity. Strap a bunch of missiles on a beak with legs and fire. Excellent.

Over on the right we have my infantry with their mobile armor. We also see the Harrier hovercraft, which are a ton of fun on tabletop due to how zippy they are. Then there’s something I couldn’t resist: the Zhukov tanks in a parade line. Very Soviet, as is appropriate for their name.

My next project for Battletech will be smaller. I’ve started on the desert force and hope to have it done in a month or so as I paint other things. I’ll likely bang out a few monsters for The Silver Bayonet first for a change of pace. Maybe some terrain. I have a lot more to go.

Either way, it’s always satisfying to get to these posts. Army complete. Project done. I can chalk up a full oversized Battletech army and a very dense board of terrain alongside three Silver Bayonet forces for Q1 2024.

A relatively slow start but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, even if I went far off script yet again. As I’ve said before, that’s pretty effectively where you have the most fun: off script, painting and playing where your muse takes you.

You make a compelling argument for a combined arms force with how pretty they all look together. Well done!
