In an effort to refresh, I’ve decided to tackle a few smaller projects this month. I went ahead and dug out some Germans I bought earlier this year–115 models in all. Rather than painting the whole lot, I painted one platoon and a few supports. They’re painted as 1941 German Fallschirmjager, with the green based camo rather than the latter yellow. As I researched them, I found a lot of variety in uniforms and decided to blend a bit–some men have the blue trousers, some have yellow helmets, etc. Kept things interesting and produces a more visually interesting force.

These are all from Offensive Miniatures. I really love the posing and the quality of the uniforms here, but the faces leave something to be desired. They just don’t feel very detailed. This could be a side effect of the models being true scale 28mm as opposed to heroic. Either way, they’re my favorite WW2 models to date. As a whole, they’re better posed, highly detailed, and require no building. Wins across the board for me.

As these are for Chain of Command, I had fun with the base sizes. My Senior Leaders are on the largest bases, followed by Junior Leaders, followed by LMGs.

There’s one LMG pose in particular I love:

I just love how that poor guy in front is about to be very deaf. It also shows what I mean about posing: the sculpts and poses are quite varied and there’s a few creative ones thrown in that add to the variety.

Finally, we have the multi based models. I really love the details with the AT Gun. It’s the crew actively loading the gun. This idea isn’t unique to Offensive Miniatures, but it’s always fun to see.

Don’t get me wrong: if you’re new to WW2 gaming you should probably grab plastics and save money to start. I only got this army after selling my previous German army so I could intentionally replace it with metals. No regrets there. Overall, I recommend Offensive Miniatures, even with the caveat about faces. They’re great and look great as an overall force.

As a bonus, I hosted a Chain of Command Game Day yesterday and these Fallschirmjager got to kick my ass during a demo game. I didn’t get many photos of my game, so here’s a few from all three games to wrap up.

  1. I really like how they came out over all. I see your point about the faces but I think wt some point I’ll have to get a platoon/support from these guys just to have tried their stuff.

Also Saturday’s game day was fantastic. Had a blast with it. Thanks again for setting it up.

  2. Those look great- you are right about the sense of proportion in the sculpts.

    Cheers,

    Pete.
