My club just got done with Tentcon yesterday. It’s a small convention we run yearly for our club members. I ran a Sharp Practice Learn to Play and a round of Big Chain of Command.

Big COC was really interesting and I’ll have a more detailed post up when I’m less tired out. Sharp Practice went well enough, though!

We only had one of two players show up, so the game was a bit on the small side. I still used my large table so there would be more spent maneuvering and getting used to the movement mechanics of the game.

Sharp Practice is really interesting in that bringing your men to bear takes a lot of thought and work. It’s not easy to maneuver a line into position, especially when dealing with terrain and your enemy both working together to stop you.

The learning player had a blast and wants to play again soon, so it was a mission success. We did have to call for time, as we spent much of the game chatting. He got to see movement, shooting, and fisticuffs, though, so at least it gave him solid footing.

One thing I’ll work on is the terrain. The board was pretty, but I feel I could have done a better job of keeping it simple for movement’s sake. I had to decide on a few tricky movement situations neither I nor my partner for the event were sure of. Our fault for not reviewing the rules in full the night before–or at least the rules on movement! Lesson learned for my next demo. I don’t quite have these rules done enough yet.

I lament that I didn’t grab many shots of this game, just the terrain. It was British VS Americans AWI. I finally got to put my new house down! Quite happy with the board had it been used for a full four player game as I had expected. Ah well. Big COC was a massive success and this game got us a new Sharp Practice player, so the day was successful regardless.
