This was an intimidating project, but once I realized how boring houses were in 1776, it started to come into focus pretty quick! Really only had to do the brickwork, shutters, and roof on the outside. I did a little bit of airbrush shading, but had to stop when I realized I am well overdo for an airbrush cleaning. It’s worth noting the shading doesn’t look anywhere near so stark in person. It succeeds in being sublte, but I can never get it to show quite right on camera.
I had a lot of fun here. I did the interior for the first time ever. I can’t say it was perfect or even the most impressive, but I do think I succeeded in making a solid centerpiece for any table set in North America.
The paintings and carpets were easier than I expected. I just printed them onto plain paper, hit it with 50/50 water/PVA, and set it in place.
This, thankfully, wraps up my British project. Parade to come later next week. I’ll be using this mansion as part of a scenario for some Learn to Plays I’ll be doing at Tentcon next month (Victory Gamers convention, held July 8th for members).
On the whole, I know I’ve made a piece that will get people to stop by and check out my table. That’s mission accomplished, even if there’s a slew of small imperfections. Fingers crossed at least one of them actually decides to convert over to our historical group.
