I officially can’t stay focused. At least Gaslands is cheap to collect…
I’ve done up some terrain and an initial set of six cars for Gaslands. I say “Initial” because I already have six more purchased and four more customized awaiting paint.
Retooling Hot Wheels and Match Box cars into death machines has proven to be one of the most fun, cost effective, and creatively freeing hobby projects I’ve ever taken on. I’m not sure how I’ll ever stop when a new car is only $1 and presents a few hours of entertainment.

Genuinely, these were a blast to make and paint, and I didn’t really get all that creative.

The terrain is my standard assortment of 3D printing. SableBadger on Thingiverse has made items for every possible terrain piece in this game and released them free of charge. It’s all wonderful stuff and he’s a complete hero for it.

The billboards in particular are my favorite. Just resize an image to size and glue it on. It looks shockingly good and the billboard can easily be used across settings with different designs. I’m impressed.

One thing I did find intimidating was the amount of templates needed. You can easily buy a single set for $20, along with another $12ish for some custom dice. I did buy the dice ( I’m a sucker for new dice) but for the templates, I printed, laminated, and cut some from a quick Google search.

I’ve yet to play, but I’m hoping to get my first game in tomorrow.
Even if I don’t, I’ll be having fun messing with Hot Wheels for quite some time to come. It has turned into a great father-son activity, and I intend to let him keep some.
The next set will be better. I didn’t bust these ones open, but I have separated the next four into their parts and I intend to bust out the airbrush. Here’s hoping I don’t chicken out and actually try gradients.
