I’m considering calling it “Pile of Bullets” as an homage to Community. That’s probably too tacky.

Tonight I got a game in with a scenario. The objective was to burn down the barn. This required that I have a man stand next to it and pass a 6+ D10 check to light it on fire three total times.

The story went something like this: my gang, The Church Boys (lead by ‘Church’ McLean) found out where The Franklin Gang was producing their moonshine. They’ve been stealing business from our local saloon (really a business front for gang activity) and we decided to put them out of business.

Turns out that’s really hard to do. But first, the board:

My opponent started by deploying his men within 6 inches of his board edge. He was defending the barn.

I deployed along my board edge. Photo missing, unfortunately.

I started by advancing three men on my left flank toward the barn. This led to a lot of back and forth where two of his men died and one of mine managed to get in range of the barn.

Problem is… I forgot he had a man in range to run up and shoot me after.

We shot back and forth, accumulating some shock, but he won in the end. At this point, I’d lost my bid for the barn and knew I’d have to win by the bullet.

Way back on my side of the board I had a rifle and a revolver waiting in safety. Now was their time to shine… or well, the rifle’s time to shine. He successfully pegged the red coat recolver near the barn from across the map.

I’m lacking some clear photos here, but my revolver was shot rather quick, leaving my rifle up against his remaining three men. Here, we see that I moved into the road to get some clearer shots, and his leader, Ben Franklin (I didn’t name him…) came out to meet me.

Too bad for him I was quicker on the draw. He attempted to shoot me, but I interrupted and slew him in the crossroad.

From here, we had a bit of a sniper duel. I realized quickly I couldn’t afford to just shoot back and forth with my last man, so I moved up to hide behind the hay cart.

In response, he moved up to try and get the drop on me. It didn’t work. I challenged him to a duel and won. One enemy left…

He had a dual revolver near the barn. I knew I could out range him, so I moved my man forward to line up the shot. Then he decided to test his luck. He climbed onto the shed to get a height advantage (+2 to hit).

Sure enough, it didn’t end well for him.

And that was that. My Unnamed rifleman managed to kill four out of five of his men and win me the game. The Church Gang might be mourning their losses, but at least we put a stop to that darn moonshine hornin’ in on our profits.

I have to say I really like this game. It worked great on a work night as a way to unwind after a long day. This game was dramatic, had a lot of back and forth, and ended in under 45 minutes. Mission accomplished so far. I might tack on a leader traits system for some customization, but I am really happy with what I’ve built.

Now if I could just settle on a name…
