Haven’t been super busy hobbying lately, but I did get some SAGA games in, which inspired me to make a new piece of terrain for SAGA: the swamp, or wetland.
In reality, this will be useful for a variety of settings, even Lord of the Rings.
The project was a really easy one. Here’s the breakdown:
1) Cut out bases from leftover signboard (I get it from my day job).
2) Use filler/spackle to texture the base and shape it to have raised edges by 2-4mm so as to hold the water resin.
3) Spray prime the base after it dries. I primed it brown and then sprayed some green in the middle before the brown dried. You could also go back and paint a green/brown hue in the center where the water will be. This provides color variety across the water.
4) Put down some texture paste around the rim and maybe make some inlets. I use vallejo texture pastes, but you can make your own.
5) Before paste dries, flock the outside edges and even add some other small details. I cut up a tree armature to produce logs and twigs, and then added some grass clumps.
6) Pour your resin. I used Woodland Scenics Realistic Water. I ended up doing three total layers to get the depth I wanted per the instructions.
Overall, I did this with maybe 2 full hours of effort and a lot of time spent drying. It was an easy, but satisfying project.
