Well! Here’s what I’ve been waiting to post for a while: my finalized Viriathus. Shots at the end of the post, but I want to wax on a bit about this Portuguese national hero.

He was a Lusitanian who died in 139 BC. He led a guerrilla war against the Romans and was actually succeeding, to the point where the Romans found themselves having to negotiate against him.

Romans, of course, hate negotiating. Instead, they bribed some of his ambassadors to kill him. Details are unclear, but Viriathus was found dead–assassinated in his sleep. Famously, when his killers went back to the Romans to collect their payment, the Romans replied “Rome does not pay traitors who kill their chief.”

I’ve read different accounts, but it seems they were then put to the death. The Roman in charge, Servilius Caepio was denied his triumph by Rome for his usage of dishonorable means to achieve victory.

The Lusitanians would go on to fight, but never with the success found under Viriathus.

Viriathus is viewed as a great hero of legend, and honestly, the fact that SAGA has rules for him specifically really delighted me. That is where this project was born.

Anyway, I’m done being boring. You can read more on Wikipedia if you’d like, but here’s the photos of my pride and joy for this year:
