I finished up painting and rebasing my Romans and Gauls for SAGA/Infamy Infamy. What better way to celebrate than a game?
We played Romans and Gauls for the new SAGA Age of Hannibal ruleset.
The game was tight and came down to the wire. 29-27 tie, Romans in the lead. There isn’t much to report, as SAGA matches are fast and light. I don’t consider it the best wargame, but it’s a fun game that’s easy to put down and play. Infamy Infamy is a little too large and complex for my limited free time right now. I’ll try to convince my Chain of Command partner to try it next year.
Anyway, here are the forces:

For the Gauls (me):
-1 Mounted Warlord (I am fudging this a bit as the model just looks cool–but he’s mounted, I swear!)
-2 Points of Hearthguard in one group of 8.
-4 points of warriors in four groups. All on foot.
This is not my final version of the army. I plan to add three chariots and have more horsemen warriors with the Hearthguard being chariots.

For the Romans:
-1 Mounted Warlord
-3 Points Hearthguard in two groups of six.
-3 Points of Warriors in three groups
The Gaul board proved interesting, but not as fun as the Irish I have played previously. Still, the fervor mechanic the board presents is neat. You can incur fervor to bolster your abilities. It is a stacking debuff on units, and if it ever hits 3 points on a unit, the unit becomes Mercenaries and can only be activated for basic abilities (no buffs!) I found this idea cool on theory, but a little too easy to manage on practice.
The Roman board was simple, but provided a lot of counters and versatility. It seems like a cool board. Fit my opponent perfectly.
Again, the game was fun. I would have won, but for a wrong headed charge of my warlord into his, in which the dice bit me hard. I had every advantage and still ended up dead. An appropriately Gallic death–I let my desire for blood get me killed.
Here’s a few shots of the game. I’m very happy with the board. Parades for each army coming soon ish. I still want to finish the chariots.
