Finally got a game of Twilight Imperium in today! I say “finally” despite owning it for less than a month. All in all, the game was fantastic. It actually lived up to what I wanted it to be.
It played smoothly, if slowly. We all got the grip of it fast enough. That is because I sent everyone the rulebook PDF (easily searchable online) to read ahead of time. It’s 20 minutes of required reading and well worth the effort.
I originally thought I’d play once or twice and then move on and sell my painted copy for the purchase price. Turns out now I want to play again. And again. This might end up a regular event.
For anyone considering the game, my main advice is simple: setup ahead of time, have every do their homework, and curate your first group. You want responsible, reliable people who will do the homework.
Here’s a few photos. This was on a 6×4 table with four players.

I can recommend this game if you have the right people. It’s a tall order, but man was it fun.
