I’ve started in on my next project: some 28mm British Bolt Action figures. I got the Warlord Games British Airborne Starter, added a Warlord Sherman V and a Rubicon Willy’s Jeep.

Here’s my quick snapshot review of the builds:

The Warlord infantry are great. They have their guns attached to their hands and are easy to put together. There’s a few too many dynamic running poses for my liking, but it works. The British metal models were easy to put together, and unlike the Germans, didn’t require any glue to put the infantry models together. This was a huge plus for me, as my Germans kept losing their heads. The 6 pdr anti-tank gun was easy enough, though I had to Google instructions.

The Warlord Sherman V was fine, but Warlord tank kits in general just aren’t as good as the Rubicon tank kits. I regret not just grabbing a Rubicon, but there’s a wonderful website where you can get Warlord stuff for super cheap, so I couldn’t resist (more on that below).

Finally, the Willy’s Jeep. Seen here behind this soldier, you can see it is… small. A major problem with Bolt Action is that the vehicles are 1/56th scale, but the infantry are 1/48 scale. For the most part this isn’t noticeable, but you can really see it with this Jeep. It’s tiny! I somewhat regret buying it now, but it will be fun to use in game.

Here is my test model for the force. I’m going with a simple camo pattern and easy basing. I’ve done about 15 models so far, but need to do their basing. I’m debating between doing them all together at the end, or completing them as I go. It’s more satisfying to complete as I go, but it slows me down, which leads to a slightly slower project. I’ll probably err on the side of speed, as after taking stock of my backlog, I realized I have somewhere around 600 models to paint!

Back to the paint bench!

…oh. That website. Right. Okay, this is a bit odd of me, but I have recommended this site to everyone I’ve met who has a passing interest in 28mm Historicals:

https://nwswargamingstore.net/

You need to browse the Desktop version of the site to be able to use the categories, but it’s great. Service is a little slow (delivery in two weeks is normal) but the prices… man. The starter and the tank was maybe around $85 in total for me. You just can’t beat NWS, and the guy who runs it has always provided me great customer service. I’m happy to give him more business.
